As of 2012, it is the most commercially successful independent film and television distribution company in North America and the seventh most profitable movie studio. Lionsgate has
produced many different films ranging over genres, some of which are the same genre as our teaser trailer. Also two of our inspiration teaser trailers are both produced by Lionsgate and both trailers have a similar concept to our idea for the teaser trailer. Lionsgate is a very successful production company, with a major gross margin, which is the main reason why we have chosen lionsgate for our production company. |
Columbia Pictures
Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc.
Is an American film production and distribution studio, that is part of the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment. It is one of the leading film studios in the world, a member of the so-called Big Six. It was one of the so-called Little Three among the eight major film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age. In its early years a minor player in Hollywood, Columbia began to grow in the late 1920s, spurred by a successful association with director Frank Capra. With Capra and others, Columbia became one of the primary homes of the screwball comedy. In 2012, Columbia Pictures had the highest gross film out which reached the number one rank, this film was Skyfall reaching a staggering £102,722,887. From this statistic, we thought that this would be the perfect production company to have for our film, as they have produced many blockbuster hits. |

Carly is the presenter of the new reality TV show and she will be explaining to the audience what is happening throughout the show. Carly will be wearing a black pencil skirt with black blazer and white shirt presented with gold necklace and high heels for elegance. Carly will be dressed smartly to give that element of her being a presenter, hence her wearing a black blazer with a dress. The host is one of the most important roles as its the thing that is the most obvious in terms of letting the audience know its a game show, especially because its quite hard to give the audience the idea of the teaser trailer being a game show.

Joey is one of the three contestants in this reality TV show and he is the only man but later on the reality show he actually starts going a bit crazy as he looses his mind being alone in a stranded island. Joey will be wearing a white T-shirt with black combats and walking boots. He will have a red bandanna to signify that he is the contestant in danger, not only is he in danger because of the island he has been placed on but also because he has reacted to the injection given at the start of the teaser and so he isn't himself which could also lead him to be in great danger. As we see in the teaser, it will be clear that he is going mad and that will be a twist to the story line because its something the audience wont be expecting. So his character is significant in that way as he is going to cause many ethical problems with the game show we have created, creating more tension.

Annie is another female contestants and she and Aleesha support each other as they are both females until they fight for survival.
Annie will be wearing white vest tied up to be customized with combats but ripped to the knees/shorts with walking boots and a bandanna, this is to show her attitude and persona through her costume. Annie is the contestant that joins Aleesha as the 2nd female contestants and so you would think they would instantly clash as they both have very big personalities. The costume Annie is wearing is the ripped up shorts, almost as if she is ready to go on the hunt and prepared to go.

Aleesha is one of the female contestants in the reality show who gets along with Annie, they both support each other in the activities done through out, this will be clear in the teaser in order to show the contrast to how they end up in the forest and further on into the contest. Towards the end they will be fighting for the medicine in the cup. Aleesha will be wearing white vest ripped with combats to knees with walking boots and bandanna all customized to her style. Aleesha are both similar, in terms of both fighting for the antidote and the fact they are the 2 brave and powerful girls in the competition and so one of the ways to differentiate them is through their costume. Alseesha wears 3/4's while Annie wears shorts.

These are the villains that are put in through the show, the three characters are played by Shreya, Navtej and Sasha. We are using these characters as a way of throwing the contestants off and make the trailer more like a fight off survival. We are going to film these 3 coming in different ways to show that they have been dropped off by the show. These characters are vital to our teaser because they are the ones that make it interesting and adds a twist. We are going to have one coming through the bushes in the forest, the other one jumping down a rope and the last one we see creeping up on on one of the contestants.
The characters would wear gas masks to show that the people were infected by the injection, this would create more tension.

Props
Medicine cup The medicine cup is there to indicate the antidote which is what all 3 contestants are fighting for as that is their cure and what will allow them to leave. So although the audience are aware its a game show, they are not therefore they think its the key to their survival. This is one of the most important props. |
Map
The map is another one of our props, this is what all the contestants use at one point, however we then see Joey get angry as we see his paranoia and madness get to extreme measures and this map helps us portray that to the audience as this is what he is going to rip up and throw to show his anger. |
Camera
This is the dummy camera that we used as part of our teaser trailer, we screwed the camera to the wall to make it look more realistic and it also had a red light to show that its recording, this emphasizes the fact that the contestants are being watched. |
Microphone
The microphone is a prop used by Sasha, who plays the host in our teaser trailer, we are using this as a prop to make it more obvious to the audience that she is hosting a show as it may not of been as clear if she hadn't used it. |
Knife
We used this knife to match the gas mask characters, we made had to sure that it didn't look like an average knife. This kind of knife suits the kind of character it belongs to, the gas mask characters need a weapon that made them more powerful in comparison to the contestants. |
Compass
The compass is there to show the sense of confusion and being lost between the contestants. While they are in the forest, by them using the compass, we as an audience know that they are lost while the backstage are watching them and this is another way we can make it clear to the audience that they are in this illusion of a game show. |
Rope
The rope is used when one of the contestants gets tied to a tree and they guy in a gas mask tried to stab her. This rope was used on Shrey who played Annie in our teaser trailer, we used this rope to wrap her around the tree, this would show her entrapment. It shows that she is in danger and how she ant esacpe, it adds that bit of tension knowing that one of our main charcter is in a vulnerable position. |
Location
Media truck
One important location we will be using is the media truck. This is where the host and her backstage team will be working on the show. In one of the scenes the worker as part of the show will be explaining why the male constant is going mad. Showing the host medical reports emphasising his blood type and the importance it is to get him out of the show. As he had a bad reaction to the injection. However for this scene we filmed at two different locations. One of them was media truck using the mac the worker calls the host over to talk about joey. The other location was behind the green screen. The reason why we used the green screen was add footage of joeys character going mad on a larger screen in the background. In the editing process we will access both scene to see which location we prefer for our teaser trailer. We will be using serval Mac's in the background with running live footage of the contestants on the island with different angle. This will reinforce the audience watching the teaser trailer that its a game show. One of our locations for backstage scene was the sound room. As it looks like a realistic studio that is utilised for a real gameshow. Therefore it makes it more believable for the audience as well as reminding them that constants are constantly being watched. |
Green Screen
We used the green screen room to film the host as she introduces the reality show. We needed to use the green screen. As we are going to place a screen behind her with the following contestants being injected. It is very important to make sure there is enough lighting in the room preventing any shadows. Therefore when editing and changing the background there is not a contrast in colour. |
Ruislip lido
We used ruislip lido as a perfect location to use as deserted island. We are first introduced to our contestants as they are abandoned on this beach. The large amount of space on the beach emphasis the contestants isolation as they truly believe they are left on this island. With no choice but to fight for survival. As part of our establishing shots we used the beach and with the scenery of the forest in the background. However it is important for us to film the contestants on the island with different weather conditions this will not only show different days on the island. It will also reflect the atmosphere between the characters. |
Surgery
At the start of our teaser trailer we will show each contestant being injected. For this scene we had each character lay on the chair as we panned different parts of their body. For instances their legs going all the way up to their head. When we edit the footage, each character will be shown a different part of their body. It will be fast pace emphasising that each character got injected. Instead of using a dentist surgery that we were unable to use. We recreated our location using the office room. Using a white cloth we placed on the chairs. As each contestant received an injection. |
Ruislip forest
The forest was an essential location for our teaser trailer. As the contestants will be fighting for the antidote in order to survive. As part of the game show there will be hidden cameras all throughout the forest and island capturing every moment of the contestants. This includes the fighting scene for the antidote and when our male character Joey starts to become mentally unstable. When filming we made sure we used different parts of the forest and there was enough footage of the contestants. We used the camera in different places and angles within the forest to reinforce the idea that there were many hidden cameras. For instance here we filmed the fighting scene between the characters aleesha and annie using an high angle. When filming we had the branches and the leaves in the screen to suggest it was a hidden camera. We used handheld camera to show the scene from the characters point of view. This creates suspense for the audience. For example when Aleesha is running away from Annie and she looks around to see where she is. This engages the audience as they are watching it as if they are Aleesha running away from the danger lurking around. As part of our storyline it is important to establish that all three contestants initially got on with each other despite their circumstances they worked as a team. However much to the game show pleasure the relationships turn sour making great tv for the show. So before filming in the forest we had a set of events that would take place within the forest. This includes Joey's erratic behaviour. The three contestants exploring the island and trying to find a way out, aswell as the fighting scene for the antidote. |

Shot List
Examples from Hunger Games
This is a similar shot that we want to use, especially because its an extreme close up on the eyes, it manages to convey what she is feeling and that she looks scared. This shot really captures the kind of atmosphere she is surrounded in and conveys emotion and is something that we also want to do in our teaser trailer
and give that feel to it.
and give that feel to it.
In this shot, we can see that its a mid shot, but the is also a low angle shot. Although the mid shot is an average shot, because its a low angle we are aware that there is some sort of dominance and/or showing her vulnerability which is exactly what we need to portray with the 3 characters in our teaser trailer.
In this diagram, you can see that these are shots that fade into each other and sync with the music. The 2 establishing shots followed by an over the shoulder shot is interesting showing the audience what she can see and make it feel like were on the journey with the female character.
An establishing shot is essential in a teaser trailer, so the audience are aware of the characters are and adds to the feel of the teaser trailer and seeing as we are planning on setting our teaser trailer
and so this kind of establishing shot would be ideal for the way we film our teaser. We could use this idea when establishing the beach and forest and show the contrast between the 2 settings.
and so this kind of establishing shot would be ideal for the way we film our teaser. We could use this idea when establishing the beach and forest and show the contrast between the 2 settings.
Again, although this is an average mid shot we still are able to see the expression and then we are also shown a kind of countertype seeing the woman with the weapon and fighting for herself. Another point that this shot is able to show is the weapon, we are thinking of providing the characters with the weapons. We can use this shot when Navi (Main male character) is holding the spear, ready to kill.
Examples from The Cabin In The Woods
This long shot shows the computers that the team of people are able to see and keep an eye on the people that have an entered their area. This is an idea that we want incorporate in our teaser so we are able to make sure that it is clear and emphasizes the point that its a game show so that the audience are not confused at any point.
This is another establishing shot that is something that has
occurred in both the films we have analysed and so that is a shot that important to have in our teaser trailer, especially for the benefit of the audience.
occurred in both the films we have analysed and so that is a shot that important to have in our teaser trailer, especially for the benefit of the audience.
This is similar to the first picture, in the sense that it has the computers and the fact they are watching them. This is the main idea in our film overall, the feel of a game show and that its not reality so these long shotswould be very
useful when filming.
useful when filming.

Classroom Feedback
Throughout the production of our teaser trailer, we received audience feedback from our class. They were able to tell us what went well for our trailer and provide constructive criticism. This includes having more close shots of the contestants and more establishing shot of the island to emphasise the deserted environment. They liked the fast pace shots of the contestants as the teaser trailer goes on we start to see the breakdown. For instances Navtejs character Joey going mad. The fast pace cuts engage the audience into the teaser trailer. However one way to improve is emphasising the reality show going wrong with increased amount of violence between the characters. This will create a more darker atmosphere as it becomes out of control. Overall they were able to see the progression of our work from when we initially started to the final product.
